More than 3.5 million Australians have been without electricity for more than two weeks, with thousands more still without power in some parts of the country.
The power cut, which began on August 11 and continues for the better part of a week, has hit the Victorian capital, Melbourne and Sydney.
The ABC understands many homes in Melbourne have been left without electricity since the outage began.
The blackout is affecting more than 100,000 people and affecting millions more across Australia.
The Victorian Government says people who lost power in Victoria could face disconnections and the loss of their water and gas rates.
The Federal Government is also investigating.
The Commonwealth government says it is reviewing its network, which was hit particularly hard by the blackout.
“This is one of the worst internet outages we’ve had in recent times,” the Minister for Communications and Information Anthony Albanese told reporters in Canberra.
“We’ve had two outages in the past week.
And the next one we’ll have two.”‘
Very, very expensive’The state’s power network is currently suffering more than 50 per cent of its capacity.
It has also lost power to parts of Australia’s east coast, including Adelaide, Darwin, Perth, Newcastle and Darwin.
The affected areas include parts of Darwin, Adelaide, Geelong, Port Hedland, Bundaberg and Port Macquarie.
Mr Albanese said the outage was affecting the electricity grid.
“It’s very, very costly.
The system has been completely out of whack,” he said.”
And we’re going to see more outages and outages as the network gets worse.”‘
This is a very, quite expensive event’Network operator and utility company NetworkIQ has been unable to provide power to the affected areas due to the outage.
It says it will have to continue working with the network operator to determine what services can be delivered.
